This first-year course aims to introduce students to the great historical events that have made the British Isles what they are today. The course includes the study of historical documents and an introduction to historical method. Regular attendance in class and regular work at home is mandatory.

Homework for 29th September
Read ‘Learning with AI’ and ‘Lecture notes on chapter 1’ (both to be found under ‘Latest Posts’ below) and then work on the document p. 6 of the brochure. I have prepared a worksheet (also to be found under ‘Latest Posts’ below) which you can answer online. If you submit your answers by Sunday night 27th September, I will read them and give you some feedback in class.
Exam dates
The two exams will consist in the commentary of a historical document about a topic we will have discussed in class.
Mid-term exam:
End-of-term exam: 15th December
